David Moyes shares injury update on Emerson ahead of West Ham United clash v Burnley
David Moyes has shared an injury update on Emerson ahead of the West Ham game against Burnley on Sunday (10 March).
The Hammers boss revealed on Thursday (7 March, via Roshane Thomas) that the Italian international “felt his groin” in the 1-0 defeat against Freiburg in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Scotsman added that he will “need to see how he is” as he looks to make a decision on the 29-year-old left-back’s availability ahead of the clash against the Clarets at the London Stadium.
Emerson would be a loss for West Ham against Burnley
It would certainly be a loss for West Ham if they are unable to call on Emerson for the game against Burnley as they look to make it three straight Premier League victories in a row.
It’s not too much of a surprise to hear that the left-back felt his grown after he’s played so many matches for us so far this season.
That’s largely because Aaron Cresswell has struggled with injuries, but Moyes clearly also doesn’t see him as a completely reliable option anymore.
If Emerson is deemed fit to play, it could still be a good idea to give his 34-year-old teammate a start as this is the best game to throw him into against the struggling Clarets.
The Hammers boss may see the match as a potential opportunity to hand some more of the fringe players a run out, allowing a few first-team stars to have a rest ahead of the second leg against Freiburg next week.
In other West Ham news, sources have claimed a Premier League manager is now in the frame to replace Moyes.
