David Moyes shares European ambition for West Ham
David Moyes has spoken of his desire to establish West Ham as a side that regularly finishes in the European places in the Premier League.
The Hammers have bounced back from their near relegation last season as the club sit just a few points off the European spots.
Moyes has claimed that he wants to recreate his exploits at Everton as he established the Toffees as a top Premier League side during his time at Goodison Park.
Moyes is quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “There’s some managers who have different styles. I think mine is building teams.
“We started at Everton and we had 11 years at Everton where we eventually became a regular team finishing in Europe. My aim, if possible, is to do something similar at West Ham.
“West Ham have been in those situations before but to get a level of consistency at West Ham would be the biggest challenge for me. How can we get West Ham competing round the top eight in England every year?”
The Irons have achieved some remarkable results this season considering how close they came to being relegated from the Premier League last year.
Draws against Manchester City and Tottenham catch the eye but the wins over Wolves and Leicester suggest that the Hammers can compete with the sides who finished in the European places last season.
The season is still young and there is a lot of football still to be played but there is no doubting that if the Hammers continue their decent run of form then Moyes’ side could be in and around the European places come the end of the season.
No one is suggesting that West Ham will make the Champions League this season, but there is no reason why Moyes’ side couldn’t nick one of the Europa League spots from under the nose of one of the regulars.
In other West Ham news, Marlon Harewood has claimed that the Hammers need Grady Diangana this season.
