David Moyes sack verdict shared at West Ham United as ‘remarkable’ claim made

It is “remarkable” that David Moyes is still the manager of West Ham, according to the Evening Standard’s Malik Ouzia.

The Scot was under real pressure in the dugout not so long ago as the Hammers flirted with relegation from the Premier League.

His future at the club is still uncertain, but he has eased the pressure on his shoulders by all but securing West Ham’s survival.

“That Moyes has returned to this level of competition at all is largely a product of his own work, having initially taken over at West Ham late in 2019 with the brief of keeping the club in the division,” Ouzia wrote for the Evening Standard.

“That he is still in his post is remarkable, too. Few coaches get as close to the sack as Moyes has this season and manage to turn things around.”

Impressive turnaround

The number of managerial sackings in the Premier League this season really has been extraordinary, with some working out well and others not working out so well.

West Ham were faced with a tough decision earlier in the campaign of whether or not to relieve Moyes of his duties.

Fortunately for all involved, the right choice was made, with the Hammers essentially safe from a dreaded relegation to the Championship, as well as looking likely of securing a place in a European final.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the boss this summer, regardless of whether he lifts the Europa Conference League trophy or not, but he definitely deserves the success after grinding out some important results when it really mattered.

While the Hammers are not mathematically safe, the recent victory against Manchester United lifted a lot of weight off the manager’s shoulders, allowing him to focus more on the club’s superb Europa Conference League journey.
