David Moyes sack update on so-called ‘crunch talks’ held with West Ham United – Claret and Hugh

West Ham United have not held any “crunch” talks with manager David Moyes over his position as manager at the London Stadium, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Daily Mail reported that the Hammers were set to partake in “crunch talks” on Friday (9 June), with the Scot privately considering the option of resigning after winning the Europa Conference League.

However, Claret and Hugh have shared that the meeting centred solely on the season as a whole, with Moyes “almost certain” to remain at the club as manager.

Transfer targets were discussed in the meeting, including Harvey Barnes and a replacement for the outbound Declan Rice.

Moyes is set to consult with the board about his choice of replacement for the England international.

Great news

It always looked rather farfetched that Moyes would be in “crunch talks” just days after winning the Europa Conference League against Fiorentina – the club’s first piece of silverware since 1980.

Although the Scot oversaw a disappointing Premier League campaign, finishing 14th with just 40 points, the victory in Europe represents a successful season in East London.

Under Moyes, West Ham United are now set to have played European football for three consecutive years, something that looked a long way off when he first took up the position as manager.

He deserves the chance to take the Hammers in a new direction following the departure of Rice this summer, with the expected transfer funds being made available to bolster the ranks in several positions.

Such investment should hopefully only improve the club’s fortunes in the Premier League next season and lead to another successful European campaign with Moyes at the helm.
