David Moyes raves about West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta

David Moyes has showered heaps of praise on West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta ahead of the Hammers’ Europa Conference League clash against FCSB on Thursday (8 September).

The Hammers boss has described him as a “robust” player and he seems impressed with whatever little he’s seen so far from the former Lyon midfielder.

Paqueta joined the Hammers towards the end of the transfer window, with the London club paying a club-record fee of £51m deal [Sky Sports] for his signature.

“He tackled and worked really hard for the team. Really good sign. He looks a robust player. Playing record is pretty good in terms of injuries,” said Moyes, as quoted by Football London (7 September).

Huge expectations

This has been a massive summer transfer window for the Hammers, with the club signing as many as eight new players.

They have made some fantastic signings like Nayef Aguerd, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet and Thilo Kehrer, but Paqueta is the one to watch out for.

The Hammers paid a huge sum to land the Brazilian and there will always be the burden of price tags on his shoulders. The 25-year-old is a cracking player though, and he is about to enter the peak years of his career.

He made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur where he came towards the end of the second half.

Moyes gave him his first start against Chelsea last week, where he really made a strong impression.

Paqueta is a complete midfielder who has got a fantastic scoring record. Against the Blues, he showed that he is equally good at defending, as he made two tackles, two interceptions and as many as four clearances, as per Who Scored.
