David Moyes pressure at West Ham increases as fans start to turn – The Athletic

David Moyes is coming under increasing pressure as West Ham United boss as fans start to turn on the Scot, according to The Athletic.

The Hammers crashed out of the League Cup to Championship high-flyers Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday evening (9 November) after yet another disappointing display.

West Ham fans have clearly begun to turn on the 59-year-old, with reliable fan website West Ham Way voicing their anger on Thursday morning (10 November) suggesting the Scot is “clinging onto his job”.

The Athletic has suggested (10 November) that the pressure is now starting to rise on Moyes with the Irons set to host Leicester City at the London Stadium on Saturday (12 December).

They wrote: “Leicester’s visit on Saturday will be the club’s third home fixture in a row, and after two losses, the pressure is increasing on Moyes to turn around an underwhelming domestic season.”

Time to go?

When Moyes does eventually leave the London Stadium, fans won’t forget what he has done for the club during his time in East London. A Europa League semi-final and competing at the top end of the Premier League is what fans have dreamed of.

Sadly, it’s now clear to see that Moyes isn’t the right man to take the Hammers to the next level. With over £150million spent in the summer, there was an expectation for the Irons to be competing for Europe again at the very least. Moyes is brilliant when his side are the underdogs, which has been demonstrated numerous times with West Ham over the years.

However, the Hammers are now favourites for most of the games they contest, with the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca and Declan Rice in their ranks. Potentially Moyes’ defensive style of play is just not conducive to the players he has at his disposal.

It doesn’t happen too often in football, but it appears the club may have outgrown their manager and change could well be required. Furthermore, with the January window approaching, it’s unlikely the board will trust him with another large transfer kitty.
