David Moyes must start with Issa Diop in West Ham clash v Frankfurt

West Ham have got a timely injury boost ahead of their massive Europa League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.

The Hammers are trailing 2-1 from the first leg, but with the away goal rule no longer existing, the Hammers can win the tie with a strong second leg performance.

David Moyes must be brave with his team selection and he should throw Issa Diop into the mix.

The Frenchman has been missing since West Ham drew 1-1 against Burnley, and there were doubts whether he could at all return this season again.

However, he has an “incredible” recovery from an ankle injury. Roshane Thomas of The Atheltic tweeted:

Moyes needs to make some gambles, and bringing Diop should be one of them. He should start alongside Kurt Zouma at the back.

Craig Dawson remains another option, of course, but Moyes must make a positive move in Germany.

Dawson is probably a better defender than Diop, but this is a game where the Hammers need to score.

With Diop back into the side, Moyes can start with a four-man defence with Aaron Cresswell and Vladimir Coufal playing on both flanks.

Ben Johnson probably would be fit to play, but Moyes needs players with an attacking mentality. Johnson is solid at the back but he offers very little upfront.

Diop was superb against Lyon in the return leg of the Europa League quarter-final. It could be a big gamble, considering he’s just returned from an injury while Dawson is a threat from the set-piece.

But Diop offers mobility and in a game of this magnitude, West Ham will benefit from him starting in the first eleven.

In other West Ham news, Ray Parlour says this ace must be regretting the decision he made about the Irons.
