David Moyes makes Jesse Marsch accusation in West Ham United v Leeds United – BBC journalist

David Moyes and Jesse Marsch were both involved in a furious altercation in the second half of West Ham United’s 2-2 draw with Leeds.

Goals on either side of halftime from Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca weren’t enough for Moyes’ men, as Rodrigo equalised late on for the hosts.

It was a white-hot atmosphere at Elland Road and both managers were involved in an altercation in the second half. BBC Sports journalist Simon Stone revealed how the West Ham manager felt David Coote was only listening to the American after a foul was given close to the technical area.

“David Moyes and Jesse Marsch both furiously making points to the fourth official after a foul is given close to the technical area,” wrote Stone (via Twitter, 4 January).

“Moyes indicates the referee is listening to what Marsch is saying. The pressure is on down there.”

Improvement

There was certainly an improvement from West Ham in Yorkshire, but there will yet again be frustration over how they couldn’t get the three points over the line. The Irons were the better side for large parts of the game, and a win against a relegation rival could have been vital come the end of the season.

West Ham

It’s now absolutely essential for Moyes’ team to build on the result and for some of the standout performers to continue their impressive form. Scamacca and Paqueta both looked good in the win, and fans will be hoping both of the summer signings will now kick on and really show they were worth the big-money transfer fees.

It was a tough night for Thilo Kehrer at Elland Road, with the German failing to adapt well to the intense environment and speed of the match. It’s time for Moyes to start playing the 26-year-old in the correct position and end the experiment of playing him in either full-back role.
