David Moyes informs Edson Alvarez he’s being axed at West Ham United with ‘huge’ change on the cards
David Moyes has told midfielder Edson Alvarez to expect to find himself on the bench following the signing of Kalvin Phillips at West Ham, according to the Sunday People.
The newspaper reported on page 59 of its print edition on 28 January that the loan signing of the 28-year-old is set to have a “huge impact” on the Mexican international’s place at the London Stadium.
It added that the Hammers boss intends to start the England international ahead of the 26-year-old after he’s become “frustrated” with his discipline on the pitch, having picked up 11 yellow cards so far this season.
Unlikely
This doesn’t really sound like something a manager would do straight after signing another player because it’s surely not good for morale.
It’s unlikely Alvarez is going to immediately find himself on the bench because he’s been excellent since making the move from Ajax and Phillips will have to work his way back up to full fitness.
The Mexican has picked up quite a lot of cards this season, but that’s because he never shirks away from a challenge, something the West Ham fans love to see.

There is definitely the option for Moyes to play the pair together, but it will be interesting to see who makes way for Phillips should he force his way into the starting lineup.
The most important thing is that we have another midfielder through the door because the squad has been a little bit light when one of the previous three options wasn’t available.
