David Moyes in solo transfer mission for West Ham United to sign Viktor Gyokeres as £20m news emerges

David Moyes has watched Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres intensely as West Ham look set to move for the 24-year-old in the summer, according to The Sun.

The Sun claim (25 March) the Scot embarked on a “solo mission” to watch the Swedish striker last week, with a new forward a priority in the summer.

It’s believed the 24-year-old has a number of clubs on his trail and that Coventry would want around £20million for the forward who is destined to leave in the summer.

Hotshot

This is a move which we could certainly see Moyes look into. The Hammers have had success recruiting from the Championship in the past and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Gyokeres was the latest second-tier star to move to the London Stadium.

With Michail Antonio’s future up in the air, another striker could well be on the agenda for the West Ham boss. Gianluca Scamacca has endured a tough start to life in East London and will need some competition for the 2023/24 season.

Furthermore, the Sweden international would be a relatively cheap deal to complete when compared to modern-day transfers. It’s a low-risk move for West Ham and one they should be looking to line up.

However, Moyes’ main focus will be on putting together a consistent run of form heading into the latter stages of the season. His side have been mightily inconsistent this season and need a series of wins to pull themselves away from the bottom three.

Once safety has been secured, the club can then cast a keener eye on the summer’s transfer activity.
