David Moyes faces ‘big’ few weeks ahead of future talks with West Ham United hierarchy – journalist

The next few weeks will be “big” for David Moyes before he sits down to discuss his future with the West Ham hierarchy, according to Paul Brown.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Tuesday (12 December), the former Daily Star journalist said he doesn’t believe the Hammers boss can afford to have many more defeats like the 5-0 loss at Fulham on Sunday (10 December).

But he added that the Irons have “improved dramatically” from where they were in the Premier League at this point last year as they sit ninth in the table.

“You hope it doesn’t knock their confidence, because they’re going into a crucial part of the season,” said Brown. “They did look like a very tired team against Fulham, it doesn’t help that they’re playing all these games in Europe as well.

“They’ve played a lot of games over the last couple of seasons and you could argue that their squad is not as deep as many of their rivals really, especially in certain areas.

“It still seems strange that people sometimes question the job David Moyes is doing there, but the next few weeks are quite big for him as well before he goes into his meeting to sit down and discuss the future with the board.

“So I don’t think he can afford to have too many more results like that, but I think they’ve shown this season because they’ve improved dramatically from where they were in the league last year that they should be able to put this behind them and get back to winning ways very quickly.”

Hard to call

It’s hard to call whether Moyes will make it to the end of the season as the West Ham manager as the noise around his future continues to rumble on.

The Hammers have put together a decent run of form over the past few weeks, but the performances haven’t been completely convincing.

The hammering the Irons were handed at Fulham probably hasn’t done him any favours as those are the kind of results that are likely to stick with the board when they make their decision.

West Ham

It feels unlikely that the Scotsman will remain at the London Stadium beyond this season as the Irons’ technical director Tim Steidten is already drawing up a list of potential replacements.

After what he has achieved at the club, though, it would be harsh to move him on during the campaign as he deserves to leave with his dignity intact.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are set to price Premier League clubs out of signing one player amid a £100million development.
