David Moyes explains why he signed Lingard at West Ham
West Ham boss David Moyes is determined to turn his side into top-half regulars and not one-season wonders.
The Hammers are having a fantastic campaign under the Scot and can go above the champions Liverpool with a win tomorrow.
We play host on Monday evening with Sheffield United arriving at the London Stadium. The Blades are rock bottom of the league but have been in better form as of late.
It’s the type of game that would previously present itself as a banana peel, but under Moyes, there is reason to feel confident.
As quoted by talkSPORT, Moyes said he’s hoping loanee Jesse Lingard can further install the winning mentality he’s spoken about regularly this season.
He said: “I refer back to my time at Everton when I brought Phil Neville in and I brought Tim Howard in.
“Phill Neville was great for his mentality and what he brought, it really gave us another edge. Him as a player as well gave us something else. I’m hoping Jesse does the same.
“West Ham as a football club and the group of players have been remarkable. The players have been brilliant in everything they’ve done.
“But I’m hoping that the future is we’re going to be managing West Ham around the top of the league.
“The players know inside the dressing room exactly what I want and what I expect, but that is for the dressing room and not for anybody to know.”
The ‘new’ West Ham
We’re unrecognisable compared to twelve months ago.
Moyes, again, deserves immense credit for the group of players and backroom staff he’s brought together.
The likes of Stuart Pearce and Kevin Nolan joining him to work with the players has made a difference. Both men know what it means to play for West Ham and what is expected of the fans.
The signings have been spot on too. Bowen, Soucek, Coufal, Benrahma, Dawson and Lingard are all on the teamsheet should they be eligible to play. These players have brought new life into the club and increased the competition for places.
Moyes has also worked excellently with the crop of players who were used to the relegation battles.
The improvements of Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna have been astounding. It’s saved us millions in the transfer market.
Moyes has helped the majority of the fanbase fall back in love with West Ham at a very sensitive time in our history. The board owe him a massive thank you for papering over their cracks.
In other West Ham news, here are three things to look out for when we face off with Sheffield United on Monday.
