David Moyes explains how Said Benrahma can earn more West Ham starts

David Moyes has said that Said Benrahma needs to improve his ball retention if he wants to start regularly for West Ham.

Benrahma only has two Premier League starts to his name since his summer move from Brentford and Moyes has now explained why this is the case.

Some fans speculated that the Algerian wasn’t fit immediately and that is why he wasn’t starting but Moyes clearly has some issues with Behrahma’s game.

When asked what areas of his game Benrahma could improve, Moyes is quoted by Football.London as saying, “Retention of the ball would be one of them, I would say.

“We like him, he has ability, but retention of the ball and making the right decisions more often than not, that’s what we are after.

“This is a step up for him, this is why if we are going to be pushing him. I just know the boys from the Championship can come in and hit the ground right away, others need time to settle.”

Benrahma has shown that he has the ability and he does have two assists to his name in his limited outings for the Hammers.

But we are yet to see the Algerian given a significant run in the side so he can get up to speed with the Premier League.

He was given half an hour to prove himself against Southampton on Tuesday night but he spurned a glorious opportunity to open the scoring for his new side.

Benrahma had Brentford fans in awe with his tricks last season but we have only seen flashes of that talent since the summer.

In more simple terms, the winger needs to stop giving the ball away and contribute more to his side’s effort as flashy moves alone aren’t enough to keep a poor player in the team.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes is reportedly keen to sign Bournemouth striker Josh King in January.
