David Moyes delivers injury update on West Ham United duo v Wolves

West Ham will face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday (1 October) at the London Stadium, and David Moyes has provided positive injury updates on the Hammers duo.

Moyes has confirmed that right-back Ben Johnson could be in contention to return for the Hammers against Wolves this weekend.

Nayef Aguerd is also continuing his recovery from an ankle injury but he is nowhere near fit enough to get into the squad at the moment.

“We are feeling as if most of the players at the moment are returning from international duty okay,” said Moyes, as quoted by Football London.

“We’ve got Aguerd doing a little bit on the grass but nowhere near the level of training, but at least he’s sort of getting back outside a little bit more.

“Ben Johnson has had a week and a half of training so he is closing in on fitness. I think that is it about them all really.”

Boost

It is a big boost for the club that Johnson is close to full fitness and that he can be a part of the squad to face Wolves.

In cases, he misses out, the Hammers boss will use Vladimir Coufal in the right-back role.

In the last 48 hours, the Hammers fans feared that Declan Rice could be injured for this game, but it seems the Hammers skipper is fully fit, and he should start.

Aguerd is a long-term absentee, and Moyes is likely to give him time to recover fully. West Ham won’t rush him into the squad.

This is a massive game for the club. The Hammers have made a poor start to the season, and they find themselves 18th in the Premier League.

Wolves are also equally struggling. This is a game they must win and get three points on board. The club need to build momentum from here.
