David Moyes delivers Emerson Palmieri injury update – West Ham early team news v Aston Villa
David Moyes has shared updates on Maxwel Cornet and Emerson Palmieri as West Ham prepare for their Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Sunday (17 March).
Cornet has not played a single minute for the Hammers since the 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 17 February, suffering a hamstring injury at the beginning of March.
Emerson, on the other hand, has continued to be a mainstay in Moyes’ squad but was unavailable for the past two fixtures after being injured in the first leg of their last-16 tie against Freiburg in the Europa League.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Saturday (16 March), as quoted by the Birmingham Mail, Moyes said: “Maxwel Cornet certainly won’t be [available for Aston Villa], he’s only just back and not on the grass yet.
“With Emerson, it will be a late call to see how he is. He has not got a serious injury, but he has a bit of a groin strain, so we will need to see how he is.”

Of course, the update on Maxwel Cornet will come as no surprise, with the winger having been out through injury since the beginning of the month. Either way, fans will not be too bothered.
Having signed from Burnley in August 2022, the Ivorian has made 34 appearances for the Hammers, though he only has one Premier League start this season.
Emerson is a lot more important to Moyes’ squad, starting 25 of West Ham’s 28 league games so far, and also impressing on the European stage.
His goal and assist in the 4-2 win over Brentford on Monday 26 February was just a highlight of what the Italian full-back is capable of and should be aiming for more of, with just one other league assist this campaign.
Moyes will be desperate for Emerson’s return to the starting lineup, as he will provide plenty of threat to an in-form Villa side, who are pushing to stay above Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table.
