David Moyes critical of West Ham striker Michail Antonio
West Ham manager David Moyes was full of praise for striker Michail Antonio following their impressive 2-1 win against Leeds United on Saturday.
The Hammers came from behind to seal all three points, with Antonio netting the winner with virtually the last kick of the game.
Moyes suggested after the match that it was a good performance from the 31-year-old striker, but he can still do much better.
Antonio returned to the first-team set-up after suspension, and he did make a massive contribution with a last-gasp winner.
Moyes was brutally honest with what he saw on the pitch. He suggested that it was not Antonio’s best game but he has been “really terrific” for the side since he was converted to a striker.
“I’ve seen him play better,” Moyes said, as quoted by football.london.

“He missed a couple of chances at the start but when you’re a centre forward you’re always hoping that an opportunity comes to you to get that goal and then for Mickey did it.
“He’s been really terrific for us since he’s become a centre forward. I didn’t think it was his best game, but I certainly thought his finish was magic and he missed one or two in the first half, but he will play much better and the team will play much better than we did today – but it was really good.”
Need a striker.
Moyes is absolutely spot on here. Antonio has been a player re-born since he changed his position.
Capable of playing as a target man, with also the required skill to drag the defenders with him, Antonio brings a different dimension to the side.
However, as we have been saying this since January, we need to sign a top-quality striker. While Moyes seems pretty happy to use Jarrod Bowen as a makeshift option, it cannot be a long-term solution.
Antonio brings with him a wealth of experience and moments of extraordinary quality. It was evident against Leeds as he was far from his best but still could conjure up a moment of brilliance to seal all three points.
West Ham have lost only one Premier League game so far this season (2-1 defeat against Manchester United) and it has been, otherwise, a very good start. The Hammers will face Rapid Vienna next in the Europa League clash on Thursday.
