David Moyes breaks silence on Ngakia contract drama, warns leaving West Ham is mistake
West Ham United manager David Moyes has spoken out about his disappointment at Jeremy Ngakia leaving the club at the end of this month.
The Scotsman has claimed that the defender’s pending exit will be a massive kick in the teeth the Hammers’ academy.
Ngakia has rejected a new deal at the London Stadium and is set to leave once his contract expires.
Moyes believes that the youngster is making a massive mistake in leaving the Hammers, as everyone is a big fan at the club.
“We are really surprised and disappointed that Jeremy is not going to stay at West Ham,” he told the Evening Standard.
“Jeremy is another one and I feel he is making a mistake choosing not to stay with us. We’ve trusted him in big games and everyone likes him at the club.
“I also feel it’s a kick in the teeth for the academy.”
The 19-year-old has impressed this season, especially when featuring against Liverpool both home and away.
Claret and Hugh reported that fellow academy star Ben Johnson has been called into the first-team, and although Ngakia can feature against Wolves and Spurs, it is likely that he will be left out in the cold.
There have been players breaking through before Ngakia and there will certainly be more after him, but Moyes’ comments prove that this one has stung the club hard.
