David Moyes ally slams West Ham United fans amid manager developments

David Moyes’ former assistant Jimmy Lumsden has hit out at West Ham United fans for wanting the manager to leave at the end of the season.

It looks like Moyes will depart the London Stadium this summer with interest in Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui growing.

This comes despite the Hammers achieving a Europa League quarter-final while having the chance of qualifying for the Conference League.

In an article by John Richardson for the Sunday Mirror (28 April, page 68), Lumsden has slammed the West Ham fans for wanting Moyes out.

He said: “David is his own worst critic and he will be thinking at times he could have done better at West Ham, but winning the European Conference League and challenging again for a European place isn’t bad, in my view.

“I’m afraid that many of today’s supporters will moan at anything. They are not happy with West Ham looking to finish sixth or seventh they believe they should be in a Champions League position.”

Will David Moyes stay at West Ham United?

As Lumsden said, there is so much good that the Scottish manager has done at the London Stadium across two spells.

None more so than the Conference League win last campaign which will be remembered forever by West Ham fans.

He has managed over 220 games with the Hammers and has a win rate of 46 per cent according to FotMob, the second-best of his career.

This would point towards a manager who is on top of his game and desirable for a club looking to rise up the league.

Despite this, fans want a change in the dugout, mainly due to the style of football that they want to see.

Amorim is the sort of manager that the supporters want to see and they aren’t so keen on the Spaniard, Lopetegui.

There is potential that Moyes could yet sign a new contract with the Hammers but he won’t make that decision until the end of the season.
