David Moyes ally from Everton days Mick Doherty quits West Ham United

Mick Doherty, who’s been the ally of David Moyes since his Everton days, has sealed his exit from West Ham, according to Alan Nixon.

According the Sun journalist on his Patreon account on Sunday (15 October), the Hammers scout has already handed in his notice and will join Atalanta.

He spent a number of years with Moyes at Goodison Park and the alliance is now coming to an end.

Nixon wrote, “Top spy Mick Doherty is joining Serie A side Atalanta after leaving West Ham and his long-term ally David Moyes.

“Doherty is being head hunted by Lee Congerton who heads the Italian team’s recruitment team.

“Congerton has previously worked at Chelsea before heading to Bergamo and now Doherty follows him.

“He had worked with Moyes at Everton for years and joined up with the manager at the Hammers.

“However, Doherty decided to move on and put in his notice last week.”

Change of strategy?

While Moyes will not be happy to lose one of his allies, it could be time for the club to decide a change of strategy in terms of transfers.

Doherty clearly played a key role in bringing in certain players to the club and some of the signings have not been up to the mark.

Atalanta, the six-time Serie B winners, are a decent pull, but an argument can be made that they’re at the same level as West Ham in terms of stature.

It’s also unlikely that money was the reason why he decided to leave and there could be other goings on behind the scenes.

Tim Steidten will surely be looking at a replacement and it remains to be seen who he ends up bringing through the door.

There will be decisions that need to be made and it’s important that he gets this appointment spot on as it can have long-term consequences.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are now frustrated with a £10m player as a behind-the-scenes revelation has emerged from the London Stadium.
