David Moyes addresses January plans for West Ham, questions moves for ‘big signings’
David Moyes has claimed he would be “surprised” should West Ham United make any big signings in the upcoming January window.
The Hammers have had an excellent start to the season and will be targeting Europa League qualification in the Premier League.
Moyes admitted that with financial problems at the London Stadium, it will be hard to bring in any big-name players over the January window.
Speaking to the Evening Standard ahead of the Crystal Palace clash, Moyes questioned whether or not the Irons will be targeting big players.
“Yes. Will I be able to or will we be able to get what we want? I’m not sure,” he said.
“I’ll be saying the same thing as I said this time last year. If we can and we think there is something available the owner would try and do it, but obviously like everybody else we’re in a difficult situation financially. We won’t be daft.
“I would be surprised if we’re out making big signings, I don’t think that will be the case.”
The main goal for the Irons will be to keep hold of their players.
A number of key players have their contracts running out this season, with Lukasz Fabianski, Michail Antonio and Fabian Balbuena at risk.
Moyes has reiterated his desire to keep all three, and that should be the number one priority rather than bringing in anyone else.
Fabianski has already confirmed that he has entered talks over a new deal, and he could be the first announcement over the next month.
It should be classed as a successful month should the Irons manage to keep hold of Antonio, Balbuena and Fabianski – that’s the main goal.
