David Gold stunned by West Ham striker Michail Antonio after Jamaica goal v USA
David Gold has paid tribute to Michail Antonio on Twitter after the West Ham striker scored a stunning long-distance goal for Jamaica on Tuesday night.
Antonio, 31, struck an equaliser in the 22nd-minute in Kingston to help his national side claim a 1-1 draw with USA in their World Cup qualifier.
West Ham co-owner Gold delivered his reaction to the goal via his personal Twitter profile on Wednesday morning. He wrote: “What a goal from Michail Antonio. DG.”
Has he got it all?
West Ham supporters have seen Antonio do a lot in Claret and Blue colours, but long-range efforts have not been commonplace.
His athleticism was notable during his early years playing for the Irons while his ingenuity has come to the forefront in recent seasons, with some delightful chipped efforts, as seen for Jamaica last week.
However, long-range goals look to be a new ingredient to add to the exciting Antonio mix.
His goal for Jamaica last night was a magnificent effort that left Manchester City goalkeeper Zach Steffen with no chance in the USA goal.
After two crucial goals in two games for Jamaica, Antonio will be heading back to East London with a renewed sense of vigour ahead of a busy fixture schedule with the Irons.
David Moyes has Premier League, Europa League and League Cup matches to prepare before 2021 comes to a close, and he will need Antonio in tip-top shape to accrue as many victories as possible in what could be a historic season for the Irons.
