David Gold sends personal message to West Ham youngster
It’s been a long time since the West Ham United supporters have had reason to get excited about young striker Xande Silva.
The 22-year-old, who made such a blistering start to his career with the Under-23s, has been racked by injuries for the past year or so.
It’s a shame, because he’d made such an impression at the London Stadium that former manager Manuel Pellegrini handed him his first team debut against Burnley in the Premier League in December 2018.
He then went on to start for the first time against Birmingham City in the FA Cup last January.
However, he’s only played once for the U23s this time round due to injury, although he did score and claim an assist in that game earlier this month.
West Ham co-owner David Gold had some positive news for the club’s supporters on Saturday, though.
“It’s good to see promising striker 22 year old Xande Silva back in training after recovering from surgery. Good luck Xande. dg,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Could Silva make a first team breakthrough anytime soon?
He very well could, provided he stays fit. Pellegrini obviously rated him extremely highly and, say what you will about the Chilean, he knows a good player when he sees one.
The big thing is fitness. That’s been the problem with Silva for some time now, and so you don’t want to place too many expectations on him too soon.
He’s certainly got talent, as you can see in the video above. The Portuguese youngster looked explosive there.
If he can stay fit, get some games in and score some goals for the U23s, then there’s no reason why he can’t be pushing for the senior side soon.
In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly preparing to sell a long-time Hammer this summer.
