David Gold congratulates Fabianski for West Ham clean sheets

West Ham co-chairman David Gold has congratulated goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski for keeping clean sheets in wins against Wolves and Leicester.

The Hammers played their role in what has been an unpredictable start to the Premier League season with a 4-0 demolition job of Wolves before travelling to Leicester on Saturday and winning 3-0 at the King Power.

West Ham fans were worrying that the club will be in yet another relegation battle this season but from what we’ve seen so far, that might not be the case.

Fabianski, 35, has probably been one of the best and most consistent of players at West Ham in the last couple of seasons.

Although he didn’t have a save to make against Leicester, stats by WyScout show that in the win over Wolves, the Poland international was called into action twice, with one of his saves keeping Ruben Neves’ strike from finding the bottom corner.

Gold and David Sullivan have been widely criticised for their leadership at the London Stadium and although almost every tweet he posts leads to a flurry of fans hitting out at him, Gold has decided to speak out about Fabianki’s form in the last two Premier League matches.

“Congratulations to Lukasz Fabianski. Back to back clean sheets. Well done,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

In our opinion, Fabianski is one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the Premier League.

In his debut season at the London Stadium in 2018/19, Fabianski ranked joint-first in the Premier League for saves made per appearance [3.8] out of goalkeepers with more than 20 appearances.

Last term, although he spent a good chunk of it on the sidelines with an injury, the ex-Arsenal goalkeeper ranked 10th in the same category with the same criteria [WhoScored].

If he can stay fit for all of this season then Fabianski should be back towards the top end of that list, especially with West Ham’s defence still suspect to conceding too many shots at goal.

However, if someone is brought in to help tighten things up at the back before the domestic transfer window closes on October 16, that could help Fabianski massively and show that this team has more to it’s defence than just a solid goalkeeper.

In other West Ham news, Harry Redknapp has been raving about this “frightening” Hammers player.
