Dave Watson reacts to what ‘Incredible’ Crysencio Summerville did for West Ham United

Dave Watson has reacted to Crysencio Summerville and his block for West Ham in the goalless draw against Everton on Saturday.

The Hammers fell to another frustrating result under Julen Lopetegui as they failed to breach Sean Dyche’s side on 9 September.

The Toffees also had their chances with Abdoulaye Doucoure going through on goal early on but the Dutchman put in an excellent challenge to block a golden chance for the away side.

This determination was met by a standing ovation in the London Stadium which left former Leeds United teammate Stuart Dallas surprised on The Football Fill-In with Ben Foster (12 November).

He said: “I was watching him and he started jogging and I thought, ‘Typical’ and then he just took off, I don’t know if you’ve seen it, the sliding tackle.”

Watson was shocked as he replied: “It was incredible. I was nearly off my chair because I’m thinking, ‘This guy is never going to do that’.”

Crysencio Summerville moment incredible for West Ham v Everton

It has been a difficult start to the campaign for Lopetegui as head coach at the London Stadium which has been summed up by this draw against the Toffees.

The Irons arguably deserved to lose the game with the away side having the better of possession and expected goals in a frustrating afternoon for the Spaniard.

It could have been a different game if it hadn’t been for Summerville in the first half as his block stopped a strike from Doucoure which could have nessled in the corner if not for the sliding challenge.

It is certainly positive to see some positivity surrounding the former Leeds man after what has been a trying start to life in East London.

After winning the Championship Player of the Year award last campaign, there were high hopes and this could represent a start to hitting that sort of form in claret and blue.

In other West Ham news, David Sullivan must now fix this Julen Lopetegui mistake now as a fresh Edin Terzic twist has emerged.
