Darren Bent expects Spurs fans to give Declan Rice a standing ovation if England win Euro 2020

Darren Bent believes West Ham midfielder Declan Rice will be given a standing ovation by the Tottenham Hotspur faithful if England win Euro 2020.

The Three Lions are on the brink of winning their first major tournament since the ’66 World Cup and the former Premier League striker is expecting a huge party in the country if they manage to beat Italy in the final.

So much so that he thinks the Spurs fans will pay tribute to one of their arch rivals’ best players.

He told talkSPORT, “It’s going to be interesting to see if they do win it and the reaction when the Premier League starts to these players.

“You are going to see Declan Rice going to Spurs and getting a standing ovation.”

Tad far fetched

We see countries winning major tournaments every two years and their players aren’t elevated to that level where even rival fans begin praising them.

There’s certainly going to be a huge celebration if England win, but the buzz is going to die down in a month’s time when the Premier League season kicks off again.

To be honest, whether or not Spurs fans wax his lyrical, we know that Rice has had an amazing tournament and has been pivotal in taking the country to the finishing line.

He’s started all games at the heart of midfield alongside Kalvin Phillips and has been exceptional at breaking up play and helping England recycle possession.

While there were criticisms of the team being drab in the early stages of the competition, Rice’s performances from minute one have been exemplary.

He’s seldom put a foot wrong for Gareth Southgate’s side and will be in line for a legend’s welcome at the London Stadium next season.
