Darren Ambrose slams officials over West Ham United disallowed goal v Chelsea

Darren Ambrose has brandished Maxwel Cornet’s disallowed goal for West Ham United as the worst decision he’s “ever seen” as the Hammers lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Ivorian’s goal was chalked off as Jarrod Bowen was adjudged to have fouled Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the build-up.

It has since been reported by The Athletic (4 September) that the Hammers have requested to seek clarification of the decision to disallow the goal.

Ambrose was less than impressed and expressed his opinion live on talkSPORT on Sunday (4 September).

He said: “The worst I’ve ever seen.

“If any Chelsea supporters think that is a foul please ring up.

“I don’t think there is anyone in the country who thought that was a foul.

“We should be talking about a masterclass from Moyes but we’re not, we’re talking about VAR and officials and how they keep letting each other down.”

Shambolic

It’s just getting stupid now.

VAR was added to the game to stop controversy, but ultimately we are just seeing more and more ridiculous decisions come to the fore.

No one, including Chelsea fans, would’ve complained if the goal hand had been awarded to the Hammers, Mendy had lost control of the ball and Bowen made very minimal contact with the Senegalese shot-stopper.

What makes the whole scenario worse is that VAR and the on-field official both deemed it to be a foul.

West Ham

VAR came in to prevent clear and obvious errors from occurring, not look at the most minimal contact and micro-analyse every single little decision.

The decision marred a good performance from the Hammers who certainly deserved a point from the fixture after a good team performance against their West London rivals.

It’s been a tricky start to the season for David Moyes’ men, but the performances have certainly started to improve in recent weeks.

When all the new additions begin to really bed in, West Ham’s season could really take off.
