Darren Ambrose: David Moyes needs to ring the changes at West Ham United

Darren Ambrose feels David Moyes should’ve included Gianluca Scamacca in West Ham United’s starting eleven against Brighton.

The Italian international was yet again left on the bench as Moyes opted to start with Michail Antonio upfront.

Scamacca notched his first West Ham goal in midweek against Viborg and Ambrose believes that Moyes will have to change something soon.

West Ham

Talking on the talkSPORT GameDay Podcast, Ambrose said: “Maybe, if this continues then he will have to try something.

“Scamacca did really well in the Conference League and got his goal and I think he deserved a start.

“It’s not so much about Antonio being dropped but maybe rotated now and then.

“The pressure is off Antonio to be West Ham’s focal point because of Scamacca, who has looked good every time he has come on.

“He should’ve started against Brighton and I think we will see a change in their next game.

“Of course, they’ll be okay, but it doesn’t make good reading at the moment.”

Scamacca time

West Ham aren’t losing games purely because of Scamacca not starting, but ultimately, it’s time for the Italy international to be included in Moyes’ squad.

The 23-year-old hasn’t made the big money move from the Serie A to sit on the bench in the prime of his career.

Moyes is always stubborn in his decision-making and is a big fan of Antonio, but the 32-year-old is not the long-term answer.

West Ham

The Italian has looked lively in his brief cameo appearances for Moyes’ side and has all the physical attributes to be well-suited to West Ham’s style of play.

It seems strange that the West Ham boss is so reluctant to throw his new signings straight into proceedings.

After three straight Premier League defeats, West Ham fans will be desperate for the Scot to ring the changes in their next Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

It is looking like a must-win for Moyes to ease the pressure on himself and his team after a disappointing start to the season.
