Danny Murphy understands Silva frustration after what Kilman did in Fulham v West Ham United

Danny Murphy understands Marco Silva’s frustration after Fulham were not awarded a penalty during a 1-1 draw with West Ham on Saturday (14 September).

Max Kilman and Adama Traore were involved in an incident inside the Hammers’ penalty area, though referee Tim Robinson was not convinced enough to award a spot-kick to the Cottagers.

Silva was quick to voice his frustrations, picking up a caution on the sidelines for his reaction to the controversial moment at Craven Cottage.

Speaking via BBC’s Match of the Day on Saturday (14 September, 1:20:20), pundit Murphy said: “He’s obviously frustrated – they’ve seen it in real time. Being the Fulham manager, he’s going to want the penalty. I think it’s fifty-fifty, though. Some referees will give it.

“I think the referee thought that on this occasion, the force wasn’t enough for him to go over. I like the high bar. Once that decision has been made, I don’t think there’s enough to turn it over, but I do understand why he’s frustrated.”

West Ham United escape Fulham penalty call in last-gasp draw

Kilman is an extremely experienced centre-back, having captained Wolves during his time at Molineux Stadium, and it takes that knowledge to know how to deal with Traore.

Despite a lack of goal involvements, the Fulham winger can be one of the most dangerous forwards in the division with his strength and pace, but the Hammers defender was able to use the right amount of pressure on him.

On another day, Kilman may have been punished for the incident, but Lopetegui’s side were able to take advantage of the penalty call going their way, stealing a point from Craven Cottage at the death.

Danny Ings was an unexpected hero, steering home after brilliant play from Jarrod Bowen down the right flank, with the 32-year-old scoring his first Premier League goal since March 2024.

Fulham will feel frustrated to walk away with just a draw, especially having opened the scoring through Raul Jiminez in the first half, and the Hammers will be delighted to steal a point.

In other West Ham news, Julen Lopetegui can solve his free agent dilemma as potential target has his contract terminated.
