Danny Dyer likens Jarrod Bowen to Diego Maradona after sensational goal against Brighton

Actor Danny Dyer has praised West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen following his game-changing goal in the Hammers’ 3-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday (26 August).

Taking to Instagram (26 August), Dyer compared Bowen to football icon Diego Maradona after his excellent touch and finish to put the Hammers 2-0 up at the Amex Stadium.

Bowen, who’s had twins with Dyer’s daughter Dani, is continuing his Conference League-winning form from last season having netted twice in the Premier League already this season.

Dyer captioned his post: “Jarrodonna”

Jarrod Bowen probably did not expect his West Ham career to go so well this quickly. Even the most risky gambler would not have put a penny on Bowen scoring the winning goal in the Hammers’ first European Cup final win in decades.

He is bringing his emphatic form into the new season, and his potentially soon-to-be father-in-law could not be happier. The actor has a history of praising Bowen on social media, but Saturday’s goal against Brighton deserved particular recognition.

The 26-year-old latched onto Said Benrahman’s cross-field pass with the deftest of touches before rolling it past a helpless Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton net.

West Ham also broke their curse against the Seagulls, with the Hammers failing to secure three points from Brighton since their promotion back in 2017.

Their efforts so far this season have been rewarded with a place at the top of the Premier League table with seven points out of nine. While many questioned how the Hammers would do this season, David Moyes has answered many critics with emphatic victories over Chelsea and Brighton.

Bowen will remain a key player this season for West Ham. If he continues to produce moments of magic like this across the campaign, he can expect many more posts from Dyer.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are considering a deal to sell one of their two strikers before deadline day.
