Czech media reacts to Tomas Soucek performance v Hungary as West Ham man delivers ‘standard’ performance

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek completed the full 90 minutes for his nation as the Czech Republic came from behind to draw 1-1 with Hungary in an international friendly on Sunday 10 September.

After Roland Sallai had put Hungary ahead in the 52nd minute, the Czech Republic equalised 11 minutes later through Vaclav Jurecka.

It leaves Soucek’s country unbeaten in their last six matches and marked their second 1-1 draw of the international break.

Soucek was awarded a 6/10 match rating by iSport (11 September), who wrote: “A standard solid performance by the Czech captain.

“In attack, it pulled him to the right wing, but he did not fulfil his offensive potential this time.”

Average

While Soucek’s performance was nothing to write home about, and he could not get forward and grab himself an assist as he did in the previous match against Albania, it is difficult to read too much into the performance considering it was just a friendly.

Results in friendlies are usually relatively unimportant. The match is all about getting players’ fitness levels up and giving the international stars a chance to play together and build on their team chemistry. With their campaigns for both club and country only just beginning, players will want to avoid injury, especially in such a meaningless game, and might therefore hold back on some challenges.

West Ham

The Czech Republic do not have another fixture to play during the current international break, which means that Soucek will now be able to turn his full focus back to West Ham and their bright start to the Premier League, with 180 valuable minutes in the tank.
