Cundy and O’Hara speechless as West Ham fan grills David Sullivan on talkSPORT
Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara were left speechless after a West Ham United fan raised a David Sullivan question on talkSPORT.
Discussing the Irons’ current situation on air [21 November], Cundy and O’Hara were quite critical of Julen Lopetegui’s management, but that was only until a supporter by the name of Andrew phoned in.
The fan came to Lopetegui’s defence and singled out Sullivan as the “problem” at the London Stadium before O’Hara pointed to the Spaniard spending over £100million [The Guardian] in the summer.
“How much money did he spend in the summer? [Lopetegui] spent a lot of money, bought some good players”, O’Hara said.
Andrew responded with a counter-question, asking the pundits if they knew how many of those signings were made by Sullivan, saying: “I’ll tell you something now, how many of them signings were his and how many were Sullivan’s?”
O’Hara was noticeably struggling for words, while Cundy just replied: “We don’t know, I’m not sure.”
Cundy and O’Hara speechless as West Ham fan grills David Sullivan
One cannot be entirely sure how many of the Hammers’ 10 summer signings were made by Sullivan or Lopetegui.
However, it is no secret that Sullivan has a significant say – perhaps more than he should have – in recruitment at the East London outfit.
It is worth noting that Tim Steidten and Mark Noble reportedly wanted to hire Ruben Amorim to replace David Moyes [talkSPORT], but it was the Irons owner who chose Lopetegui.
Steidten must also take responsibility for the club’s underwhelming transfer business, with £27million signing Niclas Fullkrug scrambling to stay fit and £25.5million-worth [BBC] Luis Guilherme struggling for playing time.

Nevertheless, Lopetegui is under increasing pressure at West Ham, with the next two games against Newcastle and Arsenal deemed as make-or-break for him [The Guardian].
It remains to be seen if the Spanish tactician can save his job by causing upsets over the Magpies and the Gunners, who are both vying for at least a top-four finish this season.
In other West Ham news, Chris Sutton has predicted a 14-month first for Newcastle against the Irons on Monday, 25 November.
