Crystal Palace mooted to hire David Moyes with West Ham United exit verdict shared

David Moyes has been tipped to become manager of Crystal Palace within a year after leaving West Ham to save them from relegation.

Speaking on the Off The Ball podcast (21 February), Irish commentator Ger Gilroy was speaking about the veteran manager potentially becoming the manager of the Republic of Ireland national team.

But Gilroy believes that Moyes would be more likely to take a role at a club in the Premier League or top of the Championship for a greater pay packet, and namechecked London rivals Palace as a potential destination.

“Someone this time next year will hire David Moyes, give him £1.5-£2m a year to avoid relegation,” he said. “Crystal Palace would have him.”

David Moyes would excel in that situation

If there is one thing that West Ham fans know David Moyes can do, it’s take a club out of a chaotic relegation situation and up the table to stability.

He did it with this club and has earned plenty of plaudits for it, taking the Hammers to Europe in three consecutive seasons and winning the Europa Conference League.

But that isn’t the level that the Irons are at anymore, and that’s why fans want to see someone else in charge from next season at the very latest.

The squad that has been built at the London Stadium in recent years is capable of pushing at the top end of the table regularly while playing attractive, attacking football and while Moyes is the man in charge that simply isn’t possible.

It’s best for everyone that he moves on after this season when his contract expires, and he can be adored elsewhere for his qualities while West Ham look to improve further in a similar way to how Aston Villa have.
