Confirmed West Ham United team news v Arsenal – Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio both doubts

David Moyes has revealed that Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio are both doubts for West Ham United’s game against Arsenal.

Scamacca is currently out with and ankle injury and Antonio has a calf problem, and the West Ham boss is “not sure” if the pair will be available for the trip to The Emirates (Football London, 23 December).

Nayef Aguerd hasn’t returned to training after the World Cup and will be assessed on Saturday (24 December) ahead of the clash with the Gunners.

Fresh start

Moyes will be looking to put the first half of the Premier League season behind him and look to start the second half of the campaign in a far more positive manner. A relegation battle is very much on the cards at the moment, with the Hammers currently just one point clear of the drop zone.

With Wolves appointing a new manager and Nottingham Forest improving, there’s every chance of the Hammers being sucked further into trouble.

West Ham United

Moyes’ summer signings need to start delivering on a consistent basis. Gianluca Scamacca has flattered to deceive, Lucas Paqueta hasn’t quite got going in a Claret and Blue shirt, and Nayef Aguerd has been plagued by injuries.

If these players can start delivering at the London Stadium, it could also take some of the pressure off of the West Ham boss in the January transfer market, with there certainly being some questions raised over the amount of backing the Scot will receive.

It has been suggested the Hammers board are reluctant to offer the West Ham boss more support in the January window, after the underwhelming performances of some of his summer additions (Claret & Hugh, 8 December).
