Confirmed: West Ham defender Winston Reid seals loan switch to Brentford

West Ham United defender Winston Reid has sealed a loan switch to Championship side Brentford on deadline day.

The Hammers legend has spent some of 2020 in the MLS with Sporting Kansas City and returned to London after that had finished.

Reid will now link up with Thomas Frank and the Bees who are looking to earn promotion to the Premier League after failing last season.

Right move.

No matter how much Reid has done for the club, he has no part to play in this current squad.

The defender is miles behind in the pecking order, and the signing of Craig Dawson in the summer proved that David Moyes wasn’t interested in handing him another chance.

Frank is delighted with the signing of the 32-year-old and reeled off the positives when speaking about the deal on Monday.

“We are very pleased that he wanted to come to help the team for the rest of the season. With his quality, personality and experience, we know he will do a great job for us over the next few months,” he said.

Reid hasn’t played for the Hammers since the 2017/18 season.

The serious knee injury he suffered during that campaign certainly didn’t help, and it has seriously affected the latter years of his career.

Who knows? With a successful end to the season with Brentford, Reid could force his way back into the fold with the Irons, but we highly doubt it.

A permanent exit will surely be set to follow this move, and it will be a sad day when that arrives for the legend.
