Club insider: West Ham signing Championship winger ‘unlikely’ as Diangana leaves
Much to the disappointment of fans, West Ham United winger Grady Diangana is set to leave the London Stadium this weekend.
West Brom have had an £18million offer accepted for the winger who spent last season on loan at the Hawthorns in the Championship.
Diangana had impressed in his pre-season performances under David Moyes, but it appears the Scotsman has not seen enough.
Who could the Hammers replace him with?
Brentford’s Said Benrahma has always been labelled as a possible replacement, with a number of Premier League clubs also reportedly interested.
ExWHUemployee reported on his personal Twitter account that a move for the Algerian is now classed as “very unlikely”.
“The signing of Benrahma is very unlikely now following the sale of Diangana,” the club insider wrote.
“A large fee has been requested by Brentford and the money will be used to strengthen the defence which has always been the priority.”
The large fee will no doubt be considerably higher than what the Irons received for Diangana, given the fact they need to sell players in order to buy this summer.
Benrahma would have been a superb signing after his outstanding season in the Championship, scoring 17 goals and adding nine assists.
Instead, Moyes will look to strengthen his defence, with the latest update on his hunt for a new defender being at left-back.
Sky Sports have claimed that the Irons are interested in Brighton’s Bernardo, and with funds available, he could be next through the door.
