Chris Sutton shares what he finds ‘frightening’ about Arsenal ahead of game vs West Ham
Nuno Espirito Santo faces an extremely tough test in just his second game in charge of West Ham as his side travel to Arsenal on Saturday.
Nuno earned a point on his managerial bow with the Hammers as West Ham drew 1-1 with Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.
Jarrod Bowen scored West Ham’s equaliser against Everton and he has been on target for the Irons’ last two trips to Emirates Stadium, which have both yielded victories for the Hammers.
The Gunners are flying high, though, and a dramatic victory at Newcastle United last time out means they are only two points off the top ahead of welcoming the Hammers.

Chris Sutton sees no chance for West Ham
The Irons have won on both of their last two visits to the red half of North London, but Chris Sutton believes that good run is about to come to an end.
The BBC Sport and Sky Sports pundit thinks that the strength in depth Arsenal possess, coupled with their defensive prowess, means the Hammers will come away empty handed.
West Ham wins | Draws | Arsenal Wins |
3 | 0 | 7 |
In his Premier League predictions article on the BBC Sport website, Sutton said: “Arsenal are a powerhouse at the moment and their squad depth is frightening. Defensively, they are outstanding – they have conceded only three goals in six league games, the fewest in the Premier League – and this should be comfortable for them.”
Arsenal have only lost one game so far this season and sit in second, just two points off Liverpool in top spot.
West Ham, in a stark contrast, reside in 19th spot after six games, with the aforementioned draw away at Everton being just the second time they’ve avoided defeat in the league.
West Ham have a good opportunity coming up
A trip to the Emirates is never going to be anything but a difficult 90 minutes, despite the Irons’ impressive last two trips there.
With Nuno’s reign still in its infancy, it’s important that fans don’t get too hung up on Saturday’s result because there are a favourable run of games around the corner.
After the October international break, West Ham will host Brentford on 20 October, which may represent a great opportunity for Nuno to get the London Stadium in high spirits.
A trip to Elland Road to face Leeds follows, another tough outing but one that Hammers fans will fancy their team in.
It has not been a pleasant start to the campaign but there are opportunities to start turning the tide.
