Chris Sutton rages at West Ham United amid David Moyes sack speculation

Chris Sutton has blasted West Ham United for their “really disrespectful” treatment of David Moyes amid rumours he will be leaving the club.

Speculation has grown this week that the boss will leave the club at the end of the season, with David Sullivan reportedly holding unsuccessful talks with Ruben Amorim on Monday about the job.

Several other names have been linked with the role too including Paulo Fonseca, Julen Lopetegui and Marco Silva, but Sutton told BBC Sport (26 April) that the way the club have gone about their business is poor form.

“I know clubs have to make plans, but for that to come out the way it did that was really disrespectful to West Ham boss David Moyes when the club have not made an announcement about his future,” he said.

West Ham have to put themselves before David Moyes

While it might not be pretty, and it certainly isn’t, at some point the Hammers have to put themselves first in the situation with the manager’s job.

Moyes has told the press that a decision will not be made until the end of the season, and if that is true the club simply cannot wait until then to start making plans.

In the unlikely event that they want Moyes to stay and he chooses to leave, they won’t have time to spend the whole summer searching for managers to replace him.

It would be naive on their part to do things that way, and it seems pretty clear at this stage that Moyes will be leaving so why not start the proceedings to find a replacement now?

It’s a huge decision, and while it may not be nice to look at from the outside, it’s the right thing to do for everyone involved.
