Chris Sutton predicts result of West Ham United game v Fulham in Premier League for BBC

Chris Sutton believes West Ham United’s Premier League clash with Fulham will finish in a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon (08 April) at Craven Cottage.

David Moyes heads across London in desperate need of a win after his side were heavily beaten by Newcastle United on Wednesday evening (5 April).

Despite Fulham coming off of three consecutive Premier League defeats, Sutton isn’t “convinced” that West Ham will pick up a valuable three points.

“West Ham’s away results have been poor all season – along with Forest, they have the joint-worst record on the road of one win and three draws from 13 games so far, and their game in hand is at Manchester City, which is hardly going to help them much,” said Sutton (BBC Sport column, 6 April).

“So this feels enormous for them, particularly because they are one of four teams on 27 points.

“David Moyes’ side really need to get something here, after the manner of that defeat by the Magpies, but I am not convinced they will manage a win.

“Fulham capitulated against Bournemouth last weekend, so they need a reaction in front of their own fans, to show their season is not going to just drift from here. 1-1.”

Win or bust

Once again, this does feel like a win-or-bust scenario for Moyes. The 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United was humiliating and there was simply no excuse for some of the goals conceded. It feels like it’s one step forward and two steps back for the Hammers at the moment and something has to give.

The lack of potential managerial options is clearly having an impact on the board’s thinking, but surely a fresh approach could have a positive impact. The performances under the Scot have been dire and another defeat at the weekend will plunge the Hammers into deep, deep trouble.

West Ham

With there being a small number of games left, points are required and quite why the Hammers think Moyes is the best man to get results is a mystery. These lacklustre displays have carried on for too long and if West Ham are relegated it will be firmly on the decision-makers at the London Stadium.

Their indecisiveness could well be the club’s downfall.
