Chris Sutton predicts draw for West Ham United v Chelsea

Chris Sutton has predicted a draw for West Ham United in their next league fixture against city-rivals Chelsea.

Both sides will meet on Premier League matchday six at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon (03 September).

Sutton, in a column for BBC Sports, suggested that it’s hard to predict a winner in this contest between the two London-based clubs, with a 1-1 draw expected.

“I don’t know about this one,” he said. “Chelsea have signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but things aren’t right at the club.

“Thomas Tuchel is agitated and he could come under pressure if they don’t win this game. [My prediction is] Chelsea 1-1 West Ham.”

Continuing momentum

West Ham’s season is finally underway after the side managed to avoid defeats in two consecutive matches against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Those results were a welcome sign for the club following three consecutive defeats in the first three matches of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

Next up for the Hammers will be another tough one against Chelsea who themselves are struggling to get it going and are coming off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Southampton.

Therefore, it seems like the time is right for the Irons to give a serious blow to the low-on-confidence Blues and secure their second win of the league campaign which would push them further away from the relegation zone.

However, looking at the record of both teams would not give West Ham fans much to cheer about with their team only managing to win 15 times in 52 meetings against Chelsea and suffering 28 defeats in the process [Transfermarkt].
