Chris Sutton agrees with West Ham fan after what he said about London Stadium mess

Chris Sutton has agreed with a West Ham fan that the current mess at the London Stadium is down to the hounding out of David Moyes.

West Ham’s decision to let Moyes go is still a talked-about subject among supporters to this day, but the damage may have already been done now.

Following a 1-0 home defeat to Fulham on Saturday, Nuno Espirito Santo faces the prospect of relegation with the Hammers sitting in 18th place on 13 points.

However, Nuno is the third of three managers after Moyes who have seemingly failed at E20, as Sutton‘s point may make West Ham supporters sit up and listen.

Chris Sutton says David Moyes was sacked for not playing ‘West Ham way’

Julen Lopetegui replaced Moyes in the summer of 2024, despite the latter leading the Irons to European glory the year prior.

The main argument was that West Ham did not play pretty enough football under the Scottish manager, and many wanted the board to make a change in a different direction.

Since Moyes’ exit, the Hammers have coincidentally been in free fall, as Championship football could be played at the London Stadium in 2026.

Despite holding the best points-per-game average of any West Ham manager in Premier League history, David Sullivan still decided not to offer the Scot a new deal.

While speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 channel, Sutton was speaking to West Ham fan Andy, who both agreed that the Hammers’ current downfall is due to the departure of Moyes.

Andy claimed: “There’s no one more to blame for the mess that we are in than the fans who hounded out David Moyes. It was those fans that forced the board’s hands.”

Sutton responded: “I think there are so many people across the country that would agree with you. In the end, he was vilified, really; it was always about the brand of football. [The West Ham way] How many times did you hear that?”

The now Everton boss is currently 12 points better off with the Toffees, who are 11th in the league.

David Sullivan is the real man to blame

While some supporters may look back and regret their desire for Moyes to be sacked, they can’t be too hard on themselves.

The Hammers had touched glory for the first time in a long time, and fans were hungry for more, but it didn’t seem possible under Moyes.

The man who decided to replace the former West Ham boss is Sullivan.

He is the man to blame for the mess that Nuno now has to clean up, with limited help from the people above him.

Sutton makes a good point, but supporters are not the ones calling the shots.
