Chris Coleman was blown away by a Lukasz Fabianski save vs Chelsea
Chris Coleman was amazed by Lukasz Fabianski after he saved a brilliant Mason Mount strike to keep West Ham in the game against Chelsea.
The 36-year-old made five saves in the 1-0 defeat and SofaScore gave him a rating of 7.4 for his performance, the highest of any Hammers player.
The stop came at a pivotal moment as although West Ham were trailing, they were beginning to pile pressure on Chelsea at the beginning of the second half.
Commentating on the match for Sky Sports, Coleman said, “It is a super save, full-stretch Fabianski but Timo Werner has to put that in the back of the net.”
Top form
Fabianski has been absolutely brilliant this year and his form is a key reason why we are still fighting for a top-four place.
We dread the moment he leaves the club or retires as replacing the goalkeeper will be a difficult task.
Reports suggesting we want to sign Sam Johnstone offer some comfort as the West Brom star has also been very good this year, but he still does not compare to Fabianski.
The Pole offers us so much security at the back and he uses his experience really well to organise the back four, regardless of who plays in front of him.
And his saves on Saturday show that he still has superb reflexes despite his age.
We are fortunate to have him and we hope the club does its due diligence when it comes to replacing the keeper, which may have to happen soon.
