Chelsea 'still' interested in signing midfielder Declan Rice should worry West Ham United fans

Chelsea are “still interested” in West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice despite previous transfer knockbacks and after their Todd Boehly takeover, that could be a worry for West Ham.

The West London club received a blow in their pursuit of the England international with The Mirror reporting on 23 May, that the 23-year-old won’t quit the London Stadium this summer.

However, Football London have claimed that there still remains a strong interest in the West Ham man and with their ownership issues now resolved, they could go back in for the midfielder.

The website wrote on Wednesday 22 June: “In reality, Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel are still interested in signing the England international, who just seems to be getting better every year that passes.”

Chelsea now have the financial power to bring the 23-year-old back to the club where he featured in their youth system.

Rice’s future is a fine balancing act for West Ham’s hierarchy to weigh up.

Essentially, the 23-year-old is invaluable to the Hammers at present and with his contract running until the summer of 2024 with an option of an extra year, the Irons are in a strong position regarding his future.

At present they could generate a huge fee for the midfielder.

However, the Hammers must understand that if they refuse to sell within the next year, the midfielder’s value is only going to decrease.

It seems unlikely that the 23-year-old will sign a new deal at the London Stadium, with the obvious draw of Champions League football a potential factor in his reluctance to tie himself down to new terms.

David Moyes needs to assess whether a monster fee for the Hammers’ key man will be more helpful to the development of his squad, rather than keeping the England international.

It is unlikely that Rice will go anywhere this summer, however, the following transfer windows will be intriguing.
