Chelsea fans ‘all ask same question’ at Stamford Bridge after West Ham chant
Chelsea fans were all asking the same question after what West Ham United fans constantly chanted during Monday’s match, according to James Sharpe.
West Ham fell to a 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge on 3 February in contentious circumstances, but that did not stop the away fans from making themselves heard throughout.
With the home sections notably quiet, United supporters could be heard singing the name of unheralded midfielder Andy Irving.
As pointed out by journalist Sharpe in his article for the Daily Mail [4 February], Chelsea fans were “all asking the same question” – as were Sky Sports viewers – as to exactly who Irving is.
Who is West Ham United midfielder Andy Irving?
Irving arrived at West Ham in a rather left-field move from Austria Klagenfurt in September 2023 and made his Premier League bow for the Irons in September – ironically against Chelsea.
The 24-year-old is far from a household name, but he now has nine English top-flight appearances to his name – including one start – and was recently called up to the senior Scotland squad.
Hammers fans fans love a trier and Irving is very much that. His rags-to-riches story – to an extent – is also something to shout about.

And shout about it the Irons supporters did in their numbers at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fans may not have been aware of him before, but they certainly will be now – as will the watching millions at home.
After getting 77 minutes under his belt at Stamford Bridge on his full Premier League debut, Irving will now be eager to tie down more regular starts under Graham Potter.
