Charlie Adam seen wearing West Ham United coaching gear in Scotland camp

Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam has been seen wearing West Ham United gear while with the Irons during their pre-season camp in Scotland, according to Claret and Hugh.

The 36-year-old is currently a free agent having been released by Scottish Premiership side Dundee at the end of the 2021-22 campaign but he is not going to be playing for the Hammers.

The Scottish international is rather looking to keep his coaching badges up to date and he was welcomed in by David Moyes to help out with the senior squad during their pre-season training camp at the University of St Andrews campus.

Adam is actually a family friend of Moyes’ having spent a good period of time living with the West Ham manager’s parents in Baljaffray earlier in his career.

Despite his presence, he isn’t expected to join the West Ham coaching set up and he also had long conversations with Dundee United manager Jack Ross as the two clubs shared the campus for their pre-season preparations.

Phew!

Those of you who clicked on this worrying that we were going to sign a golden-oldie to replace Mark Noble can relax, no such deal is going to happen.

Having Adam watch over training, even for a short period of time, could actually work out very well for us because every set of eyes will spot something a little bit different.

Having played more than 550 professional games in his career, there isn’t much that the 36-year-old doesn’t know about playing football but he can still learn plenty from our plethora of coaches.

In return, we get an enthusiastic personality who is willing to share the knowledge he’s built up over 20 years in the professional game and imprint it on our much younger players.

Employing him as a coach would have been a step too far given he still seems keen to play every single week at a high level but for such a short timeframe, no harm can come of this, only positives.
