Celebrity fan reacts to ‘terrible’ claim he heard about West Ham United fans and David Moyes

West Ham United fans have not stuck the nail into David Moyes since his departure from the club, according to comedian Kevin Day.

Day – a Crystal Palace supporter – was speaking to Max Rushden and Barry Glendenning live on talkSPORT [27 October, 12:45] about the possibility of Moyes returning to London, as a short-term fix for Palace if they decide to sack Oliver Glasner.

Both Glasner’s Palace and Julen Lopetegui’s Hammers are at home on Sunday at 2pm, against Tottenham and Manchester United respectively.

“There’s all this about West Ham fans claiming Moyes was terrible – I’ve not met one who doesn’t have the highest praise for David Moyes,” Day explained.

“He won them a trophy – they do that once every 50 years!”, responded Rushden.

“And a European trophy at that,” Day continued.

“He also kept them comfortably in the Premier League, and they’ve been there for 12 years.”

Would West Ham United fans prefer to have kept David Moyes?

Day’s comments on Hammers fans’ hindsight views on Moyes appear accurate – the Scotsman will forever be etched in the folklore of the club for delivering the Conference League triumph of 2023.

The stability of the club in the Premier League should not be taken for granted, but aspirations should also be elevating to the next level at the London Stadium, something Tim Steidten has tried to implement with some brazen summer transfer spending.

Lopetegui was installed as a head coach in a new model after tensions between Steidten and Moyes, who adopted entirely different approaches which brought a natural end to his managerial reign.

David Moyes will be remembered fondly by West Ham supporters.

The new chapter has, however, started sluggishly with the Spaniard hovering his side just two places above the relegation zone, heading into their contest against a Man United outfit headed by an equally pressurised Erik ten Hag.

While Irons fans knew the writing was on the wall for Moyes to walk away from the chance of a new contract in East London, they were excited for the mystery of the board’s next appointment – but the underwhelming feeling has since reared itself.
