Carlton Cole backs David Moyes to transfer West Ham United European form to Premier League
Carlton Cole remains confident that West Ham boss David Moyes can transfer his European success to the Premier League – but was left baffled when questioned how.
West Ham made it two wins out of two in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night, with Moyes’ men securing a 3-2 win over Danish side Silkeborg.
The Hammers have fared far better in the European competition than they have in the Premier League so far this season, but former West Ham striker Cole believes it’s only a matter of time until the side’s results pick up.
When questioned on BT Sport about how West Ham can carry their European form over to domestic football, he jokingly replied: “Why are you asking me that question? I’m not David Moyes!
“They need to take that confidence that they have in Europe of scoring goals into the Premier League.
“They’re on their way to doing that anyway, so I have no doubt in my mind that they’re going to get back to scoring.”
A team in transition
West Ham spent big in the summer, with eight new signings coming through the doors at the London Stadium.
Most will inevitably need time to settle in to their new surroundings, but fans are starting to see glimpses of this team’s potential.
Both Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta are starting to find their places in Moyes’ lineup, and once made established starters, both have shown exactly how they can add some much-needed quality to the side going forward.
There’s no denying that the club’s start to the Premier League campaign has been extremely poor, but this new-look squad is starting to gel, and Cole is right to have confidence in Moyes pulling it all together.
The Hammers boss has cleverly used the Europa Conference League to give confidence to fringe players and new signings, helping them to jump head first into the Premier League when called upon.
All of the above pairs very nicely with a favourable fixture list for West Ham in the coming weeks. Expect to see the points tally soar, and quickly.
