Carlton Cole backs David Moyes for new West Ham contract
Carlton Cole has backed West Ham United to hand David Moyes a new contract at the London Stadium.
The Daily Mail have reported this week that the Irons squad want their manager to be rewarded for efforts this season in the Premier League.
Moyes’ current deal runs out at the end of the season, but it is reported that David Gold and Sullivan are delaying any contract talks this month.
Cole questioned that decision, claiming that the quicker his contract is sorted out, the quicker the Hammers can plan for the long-term.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Cole said: “Why not?
“Where else are we going to be looking for a manager of that quality? From the restart, he’s done brilliantly – players are in form.
“Moyesy has pulled it back round and the players look like they’re playing with confidence and they’re playing with guile and they’re doing well under the pressure.
“Why not give him a contract that’s going to actually keep him at the club and then they can plan for next season as well.”
Moyes has been absolutely superb this season already and has done it against all odds with not many things going West Ham’s way.
The fixture list has certainly not been kind for the Irons, starting them with games against Arsenal, Spurs, Manchester City and Liverpool in the opening seven.
As well as that, Moyes was forced to miss a handful of games through quarantine rulings after testing positive for COVID-19.
Despite all of that, the Irons have been unbeaten in their past four and will be looking to make it five at Anfield on Saturday.
The quicker that this situation is sorted out, the better for everyone involved – Gold and Sullivan can not let this end the same way his previous tenure did.
