Carlton and Joe Cole slam West Ham duo for Sevilla goal live on air

Joe and Carlton Cole have singled out two men at fault for the goal as West Ham lost 1-0 to Sevilla in the Europa League.

The Hammers performed valiantly at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium despite the result.

David Moyes will be encouraged by what he saw from his players for the return leg at the London Stadium where they will look to overturn the deficit and progress into the next round.

When analysing the decisive goal Carlton said live on BT Sport: “I was looking at [Craig] Dawson, he is not occupying anybody.

“Dawson is not really doing anything. All I was looking for is probably him to have a look over there and shout into [Nikola] Vlasic saying: ‘listen open up your body’.

When analysing Vlasic’s role in the goal Joe added: “In that position, you can get lazy.

“His body position is wrong, Vlasic. He thinks he can see his man at the corner of his eye but if he was switched on, he has got to scan it.”

Not over

You could see it coming from West Ham. They were warned a couple of times in the first half when a Sevilla player found themselves in acres of space but failed to capitalise on the opportunity.

West Ham

It was a very, very rare piece of defensive frailty shown by the Hammers from set pieces but one that Moyes will want to nip in the bud as soon as possible.

Other than that chance, the Irons certainly had the best of the game. On another day they would have finished their chances, particularly the one missed by Nikola Vlasic in the first half and won the game or at least taken a more positive result back to east London.

Despite the loss it was a very encouraging display from the Hammers and one that indicates this tie isn’t over.

They need to right tonight’s wrongs next week as they host Sevilla with a full London Stadium right behind them and hopefully star man Jarrod Bowen back in action.
