Callum Wilson urges West Ham United to stay in the Premier League, wants to continue scoring record

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson jokes he wants West Ham to stay in the Premier League for next season so he can continue his scoring record against them.

The Hammers currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, just two points from the bottom after their disappointing 4-0 defeat to Brighton last weekend.

And Wilson was chatting with West Ham striker Michail Antonio on the Hammers’ chances of English top-flight survival this season.

Responding to Antonio’s comments that the club are too good to go down, Wilson said on the duo’s The Footballer’s Football Podcast [8 March, 19m:44s]: “I don’t want you to go down.

“Not just because I know you but because I love scoring against West Ham, so that’s two or three goals you’re taking away from me.

“So please stay in the league!”

Hammers wish

Premier League survival is the Hammers’ huge wish in the coming months, and the fans will certainly prefer Wilson continue his tremendous record against them in the Premier League rather than playing Championship football next season.

The Newcastle United man has ten goals in 12 games against the Hammers, an astonishing record against a single Premier League side and it’s no wonder he wants them to stay in the English top flight.

Antonio is right though, the Irons are too good to go down but they simply cannot afford to take any of their remaining games for granted as every one of their 13 games until the end of the season will feel like a cup final.

It’s certainly going to be an exciting end to the campaign for the neutrals in what looks like a nin-horse race to stay in the division but it’s set to be a nail-biting and nerve-wracking one for the Hammers faithful and for Wilson of course.
