Callum Marshall’s mum reacts as West Ham rising star scores v Grasshopper
Callum Marshall was on the scoresheet as West Ham beat Grasshopper Club Zurich in their pre-season opener on Saturday.
The youngster’s strike was the pick of the bunch for the Hammers, with Andy Irving and Lucas Paqueta also finding the net to complete a 3-1 victory in Switzerland.
Marshall is expected to stay with the squad when they travel to the United States for matches against Manchester United, Everton and Bournemouth.
Graham Potter’s side will then return to The London Stadium to take on Lille, before their season opener against Sunderland on 16 August.

Marshall family reacts
Marshall’s goal against Grasshoppers was hugely impressive, but his performance as a whole was just as good.
The striker instantly got into the action and proved to be a constant threat inside the box, almost scoring a second if not for a great save.
And it was Marshall’s deft pass that crept beyond the Swiss team’s last line and gave Paqueta the chance to shoot – his saved shot leading to the Brazilian’s penalty.
The goal was certainly the highlight, however. Just minutes after coming onto the pitch, the 20-year-old picked up the ball and drove towards the opposing box.
Just outside the box and with the goal in sight, Marshall drove a powerful shot into the bottom corner and beyond the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper.
It was a goal worthy of a congratulatory hug, and the striker’s mum, Cathy, reacted to it on social media.
Posting on what appears to be the account of Marshall’s dad, Ciaran, she said: “It’s great to be back.”
Marshall could feature next season
Marshall has not yet been given a chance to break into the West Ham first team.
The Northern Irishman has just one competitive appearance for the Hammers, despite scoring at an absurd rate for both the Under-18s and the Under-21s.

Appearances | 43 |
Goals | 9 |
Assists | 3 |
But Graham Potter could be ready to finally entrust Marshall with a position in his squad, after Michail Antonio left the club following the expiration of his contract.
The striker definitely has the ability, but he must be given the trust to build his confidence further.
